Unit 2 | Information Systems homework help

You have been asked to be the project manager for the development of an information technology (IT) project. The system to be developed will allow a large company to coordinate and maintain records of the professional development of its employees. The company has over 30,000 employees who are located in four sites: Florida, Colorado, Illinois, and Texas. The system needs to allow employees to locate and schedule professional development activities that are relevant to their positions. Sophisticated search capabilities are required, and the ability to add scheduled events to the employees’ calendars is desired. The system needs to support social networking to allow employees to determine who is attending conferences and events. This will promote fostering relationships and ensure coverage of conferences that are considered of high importance.

Once an activity has been completed, employees will use the system to submit the documentation. The system should support notifications to management personnel whenever their direct reports have submitted documentation. The system should also notify employees if their deadline to complete professional-development requirements is approaching and is not yet satisfied. Before the solution can be fielded, a Project Plan (below) must be completed to identify the work breakdown structure, resources, and project schedule needed to execute the project. This should be in Section 3 “Project Plan” of your overall project. Include Sections 1 and 2 from Unit 1, along with updates made from instructor feedback.

For Section 3: Project Plan, complete the following:

  • Step 1 (in      MS Word): For the selected solution, explain the project plan to      stakeholders and discuss its important components. (Note: You do not need      to deliver a project plan but instead speak to its critical components.)
    • For Section 3 within the project       plan, include the following (in MS Word via an embedded table): Develop a work breakdown structure (WBS), and include the       task name, duration (days), start date, and finish dates for the selected       solution. Keep in mind, this project plan will only contain two sections:       An intro speaking to the importance of the plan and its components and       the WBS. It will not contain all of the possible components of a project       plan due to the restriction on the length of the course.
  • Step 2: Write      10 user requirements at a high level that will establish the key      functionality needed by the solution. They do not have to be testable. For      example: “The system will e-mail the client a copy of the receipt.”

This was the Unit 1 from last week

From Instructor: Please add the entire outline from week 1 into your paper and then fill in all of the requirements for week 1.  I also posted this requirement as an announcement.  You are missing your required appendix

You have been asked to be the project manager for the development of an information technology (IT) project. The system to be developed will allow a large company to coordinate and maintain its records of the professional development of its employees. The company has over 30,000 employees, who are located in four sites: Florida, Colorado, Illinois, and Texas. The system must allow employees to locate and schedule professional-development activities that are relevant to their positions. Sophisticated search capabilities are required, and the ability to add scheduled events to the employees’ calendars is desired. The system needs to support social networking, which will allow employees to determine who is attending various conferences and events. This will promote the fostering of relationships and ensure that the company has representation at important conferences.

Once an activity has been completed, employees will use the system to submit the documentation. The system should support notifications, which will allow managers to receive notice whenever their direct reports have submitted documentation. The system should also notify employees if their deadline to complete a professional-development requirement is approaching and it has not yet been completed. Because the expenditure has been approved for the project, it is now time to justify the start-up of the project with a business case.

Using the above scenario, develop a business case and project charter (2–3 pages each). Include the following:

  • Section 1: Business Case (Unit 1)
    1. Description of the problem or       opportunity being presented to the business
    2. Costs and benefits of each       alternative solution
    3. Recommended solution needed for       approval
    4. List of alternative solutions,       feasibility of each in a table, and the selected solution
  • Section 2: Project Charter and      WBS (Unit 1)
    1. Identify project vision
    2. Define scope of project
    3. List project deliverables
    4. List roles       and responsibilities
    5. List risks, issues, and assumptions
  • Section 3: Project Plan and      Requirements (Unit 2)
  • Section 4: Architectural Views (Unit      3)
  • Section 5: Transition Plan (Unit 5)
  • Appendix A: Ethics (Unit 1)
    1. Using the PMI ethics resources       (found in the useful links below) as reference, explain ethical and professional       considerations in the management of this project.
    2. Prepare a Word document between 2       and 6 pages in length. You may use a Project Charter template as the       foundation of your Word document.
